 WHY
MAKE A SMALLER FUNNEL WEB?
The inherent problem with PVA stringers (that is 2 to 10 boilies threaded to
a piece of PVA string and ties to the hook before casting) is the fact that
PVA shrinks as it melts.
If you do not space out the baits and make sure they stay spaced in flight
there is a risk that they will get stuck together as the PVA string melts,
contracts and pulls all the baits together. The water can no longer attack
the PVA because it the boilies are glued together so the whole lot ends up
stuck in a line which the fish will have to swallow whole or knock around
before each bait can get eaten.
KOMPRESSA Total credit to Mr Nick Helleur for this bit of genius, the
birth of the Dynamite Stick has changed the face of carp fishing somewhat,
certainly it has shook up the world of PVA. Nick originally used a piece of
wood the exact diameter of the Boilie Funnel Webs inner to compress the
groundbait, I can remember seeing it for the first time at the superb Go
Fishing show at the NEC, 4 years ago. When I saw the solid stick of Dynamite
Meat and Marine ground bait fall open covering the hook and hooklink I knew
this was going to be a winning method. As always Korda's kit is built to
last, they are virtually unbreakable in contrast to the many copies that are
now out there and they make it easy to exert maximum pressure on the
groundbait to form a really compressed stick, most importantly this makes it
cast further but it also means it takes longer to break up, who gets a bite
in the first 10 seconds of casting? The smaller Kompressa fits the Boilie
Funnel Web and as soon as it hit the shelves people where asking for one to
fit the standard Funnel Web, since then Lee Jackson has made the big size
famous by catching his dream carp, Two Tone from Conningbrook to break the
British Record.
